What a great homestay just outside Sigiriya downtown. This place was great. It had all the amenities you would need for your stay such as A/C, refrigerator, outlets, etc). Bed was very comfortable and the room was large and we had plenty of room. It was also absolutely spotless. The bathroom is very large and spacious. You also get your own little front porch that is covered, and has chairs and lights. You can easily walk to a few restaurants for lunch. The stay was great already but then the host made it a can't miss. Manju and his family are a dream. They wait on you hand and foot. Manju has his own tuk tuk and will take you to all the trailheads for hikes, markets, safari entries, and herbal garden you want. He also waits until you are done so he can take your next destination or back to the homestay. His prices are extremely fair and he takes such good care of you. Do not even think about leaving the house for dinner as his wife cooks for you nightly. She has different options of what she will prepare and you just tell her at lunch the day of and she will have it ready. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were huge. The price was also so fair that is was almost unbelievable. If you leave for dinner you are truly missing out. This is a great place to stay and such a great family we were honored to get to meet and spend time with. If I could rate it higher than 10 then I would.

Situated within 3.7 km of Sigiriya Rock and 6.8 km of Pidurangala Rock in Sigiriya, Gangadiya Lodge features accommodation with seating area. Great host. Beautiful garden and pool area.
Watching the sunset from Sigiriya was truly unforgettable. As the sun dipped low behind the distant hills, the entire landscape transformed into a canvas of gold, orange, and soft pinks. The ancient rock fortress, already majestic by day, took on a mystical glow during golden hour.
Stayed 6 nights and used Sigiriya as a base for visiting the ancient cities, an elephant safari, a boat trip, for Dambulla caves, a Loris walk and to climb Lion Rock and Pidurangala. This is the perfect spot being central to all those places and having great facilities with a lovely sleepy village feel. Tuk tuks prices are a bit hiked but nothing else negative to say.
Sigiriya is stunning and has a lovely village charm to it, compared to the tourist/backpacker mecca that is Ella. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from but it somehow doesn't detract and Sigiriya still feels very local and true to SL values.
A nice hike to view a breathe taking view. If anyone should travel to Sigiriya they should start to climb the rock at 5.30am as the ticket counters open. Wearing proper hiking or workout clothes would be the best.
There is so much more to do in this area than I realised. I will definitely come back. The area is beautiful and we were sad to leave. We dud Pidurangala Rock which was fun, more of an adventurous climb than Lions Rock. It has incredible views of Lions Rock. We also did a safari in Minneriya National Park. The park was beautiful and we saw so many elephants plus lots of varieties of birds, golden jackals, monkees, mongoose, the grizzled giant squirrel, buffalo and jungle foul. We also went to Dambula Temple Caves which is very spiritual and Luckgrove Spice Gardens which was an incredible experience. Highly recommend this area.
I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya. And no wonder such a wonderful World Heritage Site kept popping up everywhere: Test it against the massive old fortress, the gorgeous frescoes, and images taken of landscapes from the summit, and there you’ll pick one of Sri Lanka’s greatest treasures. Not an easy or casual climb but certainly one that throws panoramic views so very far worth it and lucid into history at every step. Water gardens at the bottom quite worth a visit. One has to get there at dawn to avoid numerous tourists and scorching sun. Thus, in general, Sigiriya is a combination of artistic creation, engineering work of antiquity, and a miracle of nature, and a must-see site in Sri Lanka.
