A recently renovated guest house set in Caen, La chambre de Mathilde features a garden. This property offers access to a terrace, free private parking and free WiFi. The property is non-smoking and is situated 1.9 km from Botanical Garden of Caen. The location on the canal was convenient to an active part of town. The hosts recommended restaurant (in walking distance) was very good. We missed the email with the directions to their parking garage, but found parking right next to it! Lovely hosts.

Adjoining this room was a lounge for guests, with books and guides for the area, tea and coffee facilities and treats! Bernières-sur-Mer is a lovely village and close to many sites of interest. It is especially well-located for visiting the D-day landing beaches and associated museums and memorials in the area - the memorial museum in Caen was a particular highlight. It was also very easy to reach Bayeux, which was beautiful. There are bikes available at La Maison and we spent one day visiting some of the beaches along the cycle path, which was very special. The atmosphere of this place is very special and you will not find it anywhere else. It was a real mill, with the remains of the machinery still inside the house. Special thanks go to the quirky, cute alpaca that roamed the garden with other farm animals, and to the cat, who was the first to come out of the yard to greet us. The host was particularly welcoming, helping us to settle in and giving us lots of tips on what to see in the area. The breakfast was simply fabulous and generous, you have to take your time with it, you can't just wolf it down in 10 minutes. The Wi-Fi was very fast.
