This was my third time staying and I will return again. I really love the cooking which uses many dishes only found in this area. It’s a short walk to the start of the Haguro San stair walk so it’s ideal to stay here if you are planning to do the walk.

Amazing location by the sea. We watched a perfect sunset from our dinner table and walked on a beautiful beach in the morning. The staff are very kind, helpful, and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were fantastic. Cold green tea is available outside the baths. A probiotic drink was offered in the morning.

The man who lives in this house was perhaps the kindest person I have ever met on my travels. The place is very simple, and you get what you pay for. I thought it was pretty comfortable and the room was quite big. For the price, I think it is really good but it is quite an old house and tough to get to. But I was very grateful to the host, he drove me all the way to the station for no charge as I had lost my wallet and he let me sleep in until whenever I wanted. He was a very lovely man and I hope he gets a lot of business!

Very kind hosts. The food was excellent. The room was comfortable and clean. Everything was very clean. They kindly packed us a lunch for our hike on Mt Gassan.

The owner, Yoshi-o San was incredibly helpful. Although he doesn’t speak a lot of English (please note, this Rokyan isn’t for your regular tourist, but for someone who wants to get deep into japanese culture), he was keen to understand my broken japanese and even drove me to the ski slope when I wanted to go. The room was stunning with a REALLY comfy bed.

Overall fantastic experience. Hosts extremely helpful and friendly. Could not do enough to make our stay wonderful. Arrangement of last minute taxis to get us up and off the mountains at either end of Dewa Sanzan was done extremely quickly and well. Food amazing. A truly fantastic and memorable experience.
