The room was huge by Japanese standards. They have both traditional rooms and more "modern" rooms with the ryokan look but typical double beds as you may expect in a more regular hotel. Free onsen on the premises (even some private for a small fee) that were very enjoyable. The staff was very friendly and really helpful (special mention to Chihiro for her kindness). The kaiseki dinner was delicious, a true gem.

We (couple and an 8 month old baby) stayed for 3 nights in November and everything was great. The staff were amazing. Sho-In and the rest of the team treated us like family and were so attentive. The food was phenomenal with a different kaiseki meal every night and morning. The onsen were adequately hot and beautiful, also with a cold plunge pool and sauna. Gardens out the front of the dining area were also beautiful. The room (we stayed on level 3) was great, comfortable beds, beautiful lookout to see the autumn colours. Parking available for a small fee of 500 yen per night. We cant wait to come back!

Amazing experience! Very comfortable and quiet accommodation, we got the best sleep here in our entire 2 months in Japan! The staff are very friendly and helpful, the managers speak fluent English. Excellent dinner and breakfast delivered to your room! We had a comfortable Tatami dining area to eat at. There's also a fridge, kettle and microwave. Free washing machine/dryer on the premises. Free tea, coffee and a welcome drinks provided. There's also a nice private outside area to eat and drink. The location was great as we were surrounded by beautiful nature but a short drive from shops, restaurants and close to tourist spots like Unzen and Obama hot springs! Wish we could have stayed longer!

Beautiful restored traditional Japanese home. Spacious, clean and well furnished. The small garden was wonderful as was the delightful welcome we received. Right in the centre of Shimabara and close to all the sights. The town doesn’t appear on many of the tourist sites but is well worth seeking out as a more traditional Japanese town. We even managed to find a great little local place to eat and navigate the menu in Japanese! Fabulous stay, perfect little home and wished we could have stayed longer.

The rooms were surprisingly very spacious ! We had a lounging space which was separated from the bedroom, and a good size balcony that looked out into the sunset over the sea. There were adequate sockets for charging. A multi-type cable was provided too with ready USB ports. The hotel looks new too. They provide drinks at the lobby. Also, light breakfast too. The onsen in the hotel was under maintenance when we were there but they arranged for a nearby onsen for us as an alternative. We had a very happy stay and will recommend this highly to anyone coming round to Obama !
