Owada-san went out of the way to secure a car rental for us (cars were all booked out as it was high Sakura season) and even drove us to the car rental company and stayed with us throughout to ensure we got all the rental car formalities done smoothly. They helped us with the navigation and direction for the places of interest we wanted to visit. I was given a surprise cake (very yummy!) and the lovely touch of a champagne for my birthday. They accommodated our breakfast requests - Mrs Owada's cooking was excellent. We enjoyed our breakfasts so much. Owada-san secured a lunch booking for us at Tenfuji (the best sushi restaurant in Aomori) - the food was superb! Upon leaving Hirosaki, I accidentally left my scarf on the train - Wataru made a special effort to retrieve it and posted it to me in Tokyo. They are truly excellent hoteliers who take the effort and time to ensure their guests fully enjoy their stay at their facility. Their above and beyond kindness and thoughtfulness made our stay and visit to Hirosaki very memorable. That is what sets them apart from the rest.

This is a traditional Japanese ryokan with public baths (gender separated). Dinner and breakfast are amazing and plentiful, with locally sourced organic produce (even coffee!). Our room (Japanese room with private toilet) was to the left of the entrance. It was very spacious. The heater worked very well as autumn night was a bit damp and cold. The beds are futons on wood bed frames on tatami, and they are super comfortable. As I have a whole-leg tattoo which is usually not permitted in the public baths, I notified Ranko in advance, and she reserved the private bath for us. The private bath was a very beautiful blue ceramic bath filled with warm (I don’t think it’s very hot) healing hot spring water from the area. Ranko’s warm personality really made the stay memorable. Be sure to ask her for recommendations of the areas. She is a well of knowledge of the area!

From the amazing homemade breakfast to the delicious ramen dinners they prepared, every meal was made with care and love. The guest house is conveniently located, just a short walk from a supermarket and a laundromat, which made things really easy for us. This personal, welcoming experience truly made our trip special.
