We thought at first the mattress was a little firm(this seems standard in Japan), but ended up sleeping well.

One thing to note is that the staircase to the upper floor is a bit steep, which might not be ideal for elderly guests or those with mobility issues. It’s recommended to request a ground-floor room when booking, if needed.

Plus, if you are doing the Kumano Kodo, Nonagase Guest House is right on the path and so you don't have to take a detour and the nearest shop is like a 10 minute walk.

Amazingly, as an extra welcome, the kitchen is stocked with a selection of local drinks (including Wakayama-produced saké). The owner met us on arrival, explained everything clearly. All in all, if i come back to Shingu i will definitely want to stay here again.

We brought our own food for dinner and the host set up a nice table outside for us. Everything was very clean and the host is really nice.
