Tirana is a typical busy capital city with horrific traffic jams and it's a case of crossing your fingers as you try to cross the road. Found a great cafe bar Noor which we highly recommend. The market in the square is very overpriced and there's constant banging music. Tirana is an exciting, rapidly improving city, with a lot of things to see, vivid culture, old, socialist, and modern architecture, but also many green spots, trees, parks. The best way to get around is walking, public transport is by bus, and you can get stuck in traffic. There are also city bikes, that could be useful. I feel like going back and exploring more places, other districts of the city, the Lake Park, the mountains around, the Dajti mountain for example. I stayed for 2 days and booked a half day bus tour to Bovilla Lake in advance. i think we should not expect anything from Tirana, just go to the beaches near by and visit restaurants and spend time. we did that in many restaurants in the city. We can not compare Tirana with other European cities. We arrived in the evening and toured Tirana the following day. That would have been enough but we stayed another day. The city has an amazing number of restaurants and cafes on nice tree lined streets. For some reason, Tirana has no historic town center like most European cities but the area around Skanderbeg Square is interesting. One is constantly reminded of the distressing time when the communists controlled the country and suppressed the entire population. Definitely visit the Bunk'Art 1 Museum (and Bunk'Art 2 if you have time). Also visit the "House of Leaves" museum to get a feeling for the incredible surveillance through which the communists controlled the country.Guest review byGaryGermany

Our flight was diverted on the way and we ended up not arriving until 3am but he still sent a taxi transfer for us and then woke up to let us in on arrival.
