Illmitz is a great location for visiting the Neusiedler See National Park. It has a good choice of restaurants; our hotel (Hotel Post) did evening meals Thu-Sun, so we had a chance to try other restaurants on oher evenings (Heuriger Holzhammer Pusztascheune Illmitz, Antonios Hof). Before leaving we used the web site https://www.birdingplaces.eu/ which had good information on places to visit and what we might expect to see. The hotel itself also had a good booklet on local places to visit and wildlife and we bought an English language version. Breakfast was amazing and made out of food from the local area. I liked the grape juice that was made by the hotel. Room was big and clean the shower was amazing. I think is the first one that I've seen that they really put thought into it. Quiet, free parking. In the summer time I believe it is a wonderful place. Ahhh....and I shouldn't forget about the wine. The staff were all very friendly and took the time to talk to us, what our interests were and to get to know us as people. Our whole family (10 people) were able to stay in three apartments in a common area where we had privacy and the opportunity to sit together in the garden. They provided us with breakfast, plus Mrs. Gangl baked us apple strudel for snack. Great communication, I can only recommend.
