Matrei and the surrounding countryside mirror the pictures that are seen of Austria: it is beautiful. The town has two grocery stores and a very helpful tourist information center. It also has an interesting museum and a reasonable choice of restaurants.. We ate our evening meal in the hotel across the street ( where the breakfast included is eaten) and the food was good. Nice small town. They have supermarkets and a bus stop. For us it was our starting and end point of the Venediger Höhenweg. You need some planning to get to the right place by bus. Nice connection to the train station in Kitzbühel and Lienz. Also you can get by bus to the Matreier Tauern Haus and Ströden. Hitchhiking is also possible.Guest review byLieke - 10.0

The room we stayed in was pleasantly spacious, cozy, and had a beautiful view of the mountains. We settled in and rested, but unfortunately, in the morning, after breakfast, we had to leave without taking a walk in the surroundings. Overall, we had a good impression; it’s a nice place.
