FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Lovely city and very easy to get around.

Lovely city and very easy to get around. Would highly recommend the myki card for the tram services. The trams get you to most places you want to see. Great shopping city with shops and shopping malls to suit all budgets. Fans of UGG could get great deals on a large variety of boots and other merchandise. Most of the UGG shops based on Catherine Street. I from Ireland and the price difference is immense. When you do the shopping and realise that there no room in your case take the tram out to DFO South Wharf and buy a reasonably priced suitcase for your extra purchases. Be sure to book it on your plane online before the airport. I made that mistake and got charged extra at the airport.

Melbourne is suffering from tourist overload.

Melbourne is suffering from tourist overload. However food is good and reasonably priced and Lygon St is worth a visit. Had a great evening in Piccolo Mondo. Would not recommend a car trip there - price gouging on parking and fuel. The only place in the world that I have been ripped off by an Uber driver. A black Audi suv Z222 M - responded to our call at the Casino entrance, arrived, saw us and did not come through the uber lane but sped off through the taxi area. I later found he had registered the pick up and proceeded on part of our required route and claimed the fare. Uber has done nothing. If you must visit I would recommend arrival by air, shuttle bus to a secure CBD hotel and use public transport. Also keep credit cards in screened wallet as Melbourne is the credit card scanning capital of Australia.

We had limited time in the city on this trip with our grand daughter. Have enjoyed many attractions on previous occasions as there are many. We visited the aquarium this time, which was excellent and would recommend a visit. The free trams make getting around very easy.

Melbourne's CBD is seriously awesome—it's got such a cool, energetic vibe. You'll never get bored with all the amazing cafes, hidden laneways, and great shopping spots. When the sun goes down, the place just lights up with tons of cool bars and live music venues. What I love most is how you can go from the city's buzz to a peaceful park in just a few minutes, which is super refreshing. It's the perfect mix of city action and chill nature, making it a place I can't wait to visit again.

Rented this hotel last minutes for 11/2 day visit to Melbourne. Nice facility. Had a great view from the 27th floor. Hotel is located 500 m from the (central business district (CBD) which was very close to many attractions, bus, trains, shopping, dining etc. Located about 3-5 minutes from Yarra river. I ordered breakfast and that was delivered on time. Staff were very friendly and willing to help answer question on how to get around the city. Would def stay here again.

You can’t beat the location. Right by the train station and easy walk to eateries all along Toorak Rd & Chapel St. The view back to the city was great. The apartments are modern, furnished nicely and beds were comfy. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. The staff were super friendly and helpful & the price was so good compared to city/Docklands where we used to stay. This area has city vibes without being the CBD.

Apartment hotel that is super convenient for getting in and around Melbourne CBD. Tram stop is right outside the hotel and there are a lot of cafes walkable from the hotel. The staff were very friendly. Some good basic kitchen facilities available. Would definitely recommend for travellers with a packed schedule who want a private room to sleep in at night and travellers with a family.

This is a wonderful quiet hotel located right on the edge of the city in East Melbourne. It’s an easy walk over the road into the CBD and there are several lovely parks nearby to relax in. Some of the rooms offer sensational views of the city. We loved our stay and will definitely return.

It was extremely convenient location for me due to my late arrival and the bus connection option I used from the airport to the CBD Melbourne. It was just a few minutes walk from the terminal bus stop to the hotel, which was quick and easy even with my moderate luggage load.
