Mount Barker is a small and largely old-fashioned country town. The exceptions are a fabulous IGA for groceries, a lovely new cafe for breakfast/lunch and an art gallery operated by silo painter Sobrane. We felt very safe in Mount Barker and walked at night to and from dinner. Dinner options are limited to two pubs and a Chinese restaurant, so while the food at the Chinese and Mt Barker Hotel Bar & Bistro was very nice, you wouldn't stay here if fine dining was your thing. In terms of things to do, you are limited in the immediate vicinity to a few wineries, although it's only about half an hour to Albany.

There were two or three nice places to eat and some nice shops. We ate at the local pub and bistro and it was delicious food and great chat. The town is perfect for those wanting to do walking and climbing in the Porongurup National Park near by - we did the Granite Skywalk and it was a great day out.

Nice town with most amenities and nice supermarket to top up supplies. Good base to visit surrounding areas. Some nice wineries close by and easy access to the Porongorups. Finding places to eat is a bit of a challenge at night though local hotel does a nice meal.

The town is pretty surrounded by forest, farms and some mountains in the distance. The homes are mostly neat many have flowers and well cared for gardens. It has a good amount of stores and a museum with exhibits. The people are friendly and there is several options for dining.

Mt Barker has a lot of history and in Spring the green rolling farmlands are quite beautiful. It is an easy drive from Perth via Kojonup and Williams with good roads. The History Society is only open on weekends but information on history can be found at Mt Barker library. It is well worth a visit.

    Good clean country WA town.

Good clean country WA town. Central to vineyards and easy drive to the Porongorup and Albany and Denmark. Two good Hotels for meals as well a several café style eatery which do not seem to be open in the evening. A service station with restaurant is also available.
