We had an absolutely wonderful time at Emily’s house! The house is not only beautiful and very cozy, but also perfectly equipped with everything you could possibly need – and spotlessly clean. We also enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace and simply taking in the peaceful atmosphere. What truly makes Velvet Fern Guesthouse special is the thoughtful and loving attention to detail: everything was personally and carefully prepared for our arrival, including a lovely breakfast and bikes we could use – such a kind touch! We felt welcome and at home from the very first moment. Thank you so much, Emily – we’d love to come back!

    Mountain and Comox Bay Scenery were great.

    Mountain and Comox Bay Scenery were great. Downtown Courtenay had many interesting shops, good coffee shops and bakery. Traffic across river can be slow at times. Adjacent to Comox is a bonus with Comox marina, beautiful sea views and Comox airport is 4 km from Courtenay. Courtenay is walkable. Chocolate shop/bakery on main street not to be missed.

    Stopped here one night before flying from Comox airport.

    Stopped here one night before flying from Comox airport. Seemed a nice local town and residential area with small independent shops. We didn’t have time to visit any nearby attractions or eat at local restaurants.

    People were nice.

    People were nice. Beaches along the coast were lovely and a good place to stay for visiting Courtenay itself and to use as a base for visiting other places. We ate at the Atlas Cade the first night and it was so good we went there again the second night. Great wait staff and great food.

    We stayed in Courtenay to try to go skiing, but...

    We stayed in Courtenay to try to go skiing, but unfortunately, this winter has almost no snow, but that's ok, it was our first time in town and it was nice, we had great food at Local and The Hen and Hog Cafe, I definitely recommend those two places.

    With a stroll through the river area I again appreciated all...

    With a stroll through the river area I again appreciated all the hard work of citizens determined to prevent flooding and also warning about personal safety near the water and on the bridge. The variety of shops is interesting. This trip we walked the river trail to the viewpoint to appreciate the Courtenay River joining the ocean. There are plenty of coffee shops, a brewery and bakery and great ethnic preferences for dinner dining. I always enjoy our visits.

    No complications with arrangements/booking, . . . everything was very straightforward. Location was very central, and easy to find. Hosts were very timely and on top of things. Suite was very tidy/clean, beds and bedding were better quality than usual; suite was quiet; our stay was much better than we’d normally experience in a motel or hotel.

    the bkfst was very nice - really appreciated the extremely comfortable bed - the area was very quiet which was what I had tried to find - usually stay in Courtenay but it is getting too noisy and busy now - also was nice to be between Royston and Union Bay and visit different areas this time - great shower and nice amenities

    Hotel was great, my only complaint was the smell in the hallways . What ever air freshener you use I'd stop lol It's smells like a very old building, at first room had an old smell to it ,but I aclamaded . Overall I was happy ,breakfast was great . Location is Golden

    The male clerk could not find my reservation when I checked in. However the female clerk later on duty was able to assess and fix the tv cable situation that came up. The room was clean and lots of towels etc. The hotel was quiet at night.

    our whole trip was amazing. I didnt have high expectations as a 2 star but this hotel blew me AWAY! rooms and hotel were extremely clean, breakfast was a hot buffet and not just a continental, staff were very friendly.
