This wasn't our first trip to Nanaimo so we did know our way around most of the city and beyond, but it is always a great place to be. We love the well planned Harbour walkways, many events in the parks, the beach trails. Our favourite beach walks are Piper's Lagoon and Neck Point. There are many good music venues, restaurants, scenic drives and walks. We easily found side roads that were basically parallel to the highway to get to and from downtown. I l lived in Nanaimo for 20 years and was thier for business reasons. The motel had no facilities to make coffee or tea or any drawers to put clothes in. Jaw-droppingly beautiful Newcastle Island Park right there! Excellent innovative fine dining/cocktails and wine at Mélange. Amazing breakfast at Gabrielle’s Cafe. Fun coffee, drinks and eats at The Vault, which has a rather mesmerizing ambience. We stayed at the Dorchester Best Western. It is worth it to get a harbour facing room. The islands and water there are spectacular to wake up to. Be sure to spend time exploring along Chapel and Church streets area - the old part of town. It is small but really interesting. She gave us good recommendations for our visit in Nanaimo. In the morning she made us a delicious breakfast with fresh eggs from her own chicken. Also her two little dogs and her cat are so cute. The room was really nice and clean. We had our own nice bathroom. The waterfront was only a 5 minute walk away. 10 out of 10 for this stay.
