Amazing location and view, very quiet and clean (no cars allowed in the village). Lots of hiking trails and activities to do. Very nice restaurants.
Sometimes it was hard to find the hiking trails and understand their difficulty and lengths. Maybe more signs would make it easier

Fantastic scenery, lots of snow covered peaks.
Fantastic scenery, lots of snow covered peaks. Feels very safe. Most restaurants have staff who speak good english. Great hiking venue. Summer time small tourist tax for a Saastal Card which gives access to all Post buses and cable cars upto the snow line in the Saas valley. Car free village.
Beaware everything is expensive, but the venue is worth it.

The location is great - at the end of a valley surrounded by mountains - and it's high, very high, which is perfect for late-season skiing. The village is at 1,800m, the top is 3,800m and the "world's highest revolving restaurant" is at 3,500. You can ski continuously all the way from the top to the bottom, with the majority of runs being wide reds and, because of the altitude and north-facing aspect, even at the start of April in brilliant sunshine, the snow hadn't turned to slush by my last run down. There are nursery slopes next to the village but, piste-wise, it's really more a resort for intermediates, as you need to go on some (admittedly easy) reds to get to the few blues up the mountain. Off-piste skiing looks great, but I'll leave it to better skiers than me to assess how it compares. The village is car-free, but with little electric buggies run by the larger hotels and for deliveries, and pretty compact with a decent range of shops, restaurants and bars. Access is easy - direct train from Geneva, Zurich or Basel airports to Visp then connecting bus up the spectacular valley.

We went there for skiing, the week just before Xmas, but 60% or even more of the ski station was closed for no apparent reason.
There was enough snow, almost all installations were open during the previous weekend, and people around the village were wondering why they are not opening the rest of the station for guests/visitors.
Last year, same conditions, 90% of the ski station was open. We spent all these money for the whole week there and we could only ski almost 2 slopes... NOT WORTH IT

This was a charming town, which can be reached by bus from the train station at Interlochen. It was less crowded than other Swiss towns we visited, and we liked the non-touristy atmosphere. We took numerous gondola rides to the tops of high peaks, including Schilthorn, which took us up to glaciers. There's also a gondola ride right in town that took us to a beautiful view and an excellent playground for young children. We traveled by bus to Lake Mattmark (largest earth dam in Europe) where we saw a beautiful lake and many waterfalls. The town itself boasts many restaurants and shops. My favorite shop was Bergluft, in the center of town beside the modern Catholic church, where I bought numerous handmade gifts.

Great Swiss village, very clean, very friendly people.
Great Swiss village, very clean, very friendly people. Getting around the village can be a challenge. Taxi service appears to be unregulated and prices over the same distance seem to vary from driver to driver

Room was decent vis-à-vis the price but was gloomy and decoration really old fashioned. Spa was available but couldn't use due to scheduling conflict. Breakfast was reasonable but should have had better options given a five star rating of the hotel.

This hotel is a gem. Prime location in the heart of the village, super friendly staff who are willing to help guide you to the next hike, and we loved the steam/sauna/hot tub area.
