OMG! We came with a private birding group tour because the Cock of the Cock lek & other great birds can be seen here. We stayed extra after the tour left. We loved it so much that we want to return & book a place for perhaps a month. As birders it was incredible to easily walk to go birding. There was no need to hire a driver or guide. It’s very easy to walk to the restaurants that are out in the country, but you can easily book a mini-taxi & they are super cheap. They are lined up at the square waiting. I often walked the town alone carrying a camera & binoculars. I was completely safe. No catcalls from men like I would receive at home plus I knew that I wasn’t surrounded by guns like at home as well. We discovered a trail, but it looked like it was on someone’s property. We asked some people walking by that didn’t speak English. Our limited Spanish wasn’t working. The woman spent a lot of time using her translation app to assist us. She wanted us to be aware that it was a public trail, but that it was very steep & required care. Our birding guide would not have taken our group on it. We loved it! In short, the people here are welcoming & friendly. There are a surprising number of excellent restaurants & the prices are so much lower than in the U.S. We saw Europeans here. We didn’t realize that Jardín is listed as a top ecotourism destination. If you come, make an effort to go see the Oilbirds. They are on private property & you have to book a reservation in advance. The young men that took us made an effort to point out butterflies & birds along the way. Note- it is a very steep descent. Our group birding guide did not feel comfortable taking the group which had some older women. The hike back up was much easier for me. The guides allowed us to go at our own pace. We saw several gorgeous Clearwing butterflies here & got photos. This was the only place in 5 weeks there that we were able to do so.

The nature, the mountains, the birds and a village that keep his authenticity even with having tourists around. I strongly recommend this place. Also the tours companies are discret and respect the environnemnt.

Very nice colorful pueblo surrounded by jungle. Lots of noisy construction work. Beautiful coffee shop .Macanas. Gorgeous photo spot. Super Pizza at Sicily Pizza!! Zip line available Good place for serious hikers. Lots of farmers in town. A bit cooler than Medellin. 3.5 hour rough bus ride.

We visited Jardin 9 years earlier and wanted to return. We loved the opportunity to stay in a rural hotel for part of this trip and hope to do so again. The town is lovely and lively. The area outside town has many less known treasures to discover.

I loved Jardin. If you are a hiker and a nature lover, this is a great place to base out of. Hikes every direction, in 2 days I was just skimming the surface. Loved the Chalco River and the waterfalls, could spend every day there.

We happened to be there at the height of tourist season, and because the rooms have no windows the sound of people and motors was overwhelming. That said the room we stayed in was beautiful, somewhat small but clean and perfectly comfortable.
