Nice town with plenty of restaurants, shops and pubs: I liked a bit more Puerto Villamill on Isabella Island which is not as developed as Puerto Ayora. Wildlife is within easy walking distance.
Wildlife is within easy walking distance. No need for a tour to see marine iguanas, sea lions, Sally Lightfoot crabs, and brown pelicans. Blue-footed boobies and frigatebirds fly near the pier. Sharks are always near the pier and sea turtles come by occasionly. The walk out to Las Grietas is pleasant but the water, even though very scenic, is Very cold. Touristy and expensive restaurants are along Charles Darwin Street. Inexpensive restaurants are on Binford Street where a meal with a fruit juice drink is $5 or $6. Good food. We visited the Galapagos Islands on a 11 day trip. What a memorable trip. We spent 5 days at Puerto Ayora (Santa Cruz) and three days on the islands of San Cristobal and Isabela. We enjoyed Puerto Ayora the most since there were more choices for restaurants and retail stores. The Puerto Ayora day trips to Tortuga Bay, El Chato Ranch - Giant Tortoise Reserve and the Las Grietas (Bay Tour) were the most memorable excursions while in Puerto Ayora. Numerious seafood restaurant options were available at the Puerto Ayora. Numerious travel agencies are available to book day excursions. Bring sun protection since the sun is extremely hot when ther are few clouds and refillable water bottles for hydration. Also when snorkeling wear long rash guards to protect from the sun, jellyfish, cold water and sharp volcanic rock especially snorkeling throught the Tuneles on Isabela island.Guest review byMichaelUnited States - 8.0

A bit touristy with many shops, restaurants and especially the tour places accosted you as you walked the streets but the beaches were beautiful (Tortuago Bay) and disappointed w/crowd at Las Griastas. Darwin Center was wonderful and food was excellent and reasonable.Guest review byKlotz
