FAQs about hotels in Girona

A splash of colour and history in the heart of Catalonia

The colourful and charming gem that is Girona is set on the banks of where the rivers Ter, Onyar, Galligants and Güell meet. Girona is protected by fortifications and features a remarkable medieval centre along with several fine Romanesque and Gothic buildings.

The province houses the ancient Arab Baths, the Girona Cathedral, and the lovely Girona Art Museum. Due its mountainous terrain Girona is also a popular destination for cycling enthusiasts, whilst theatre lovers can enjoy a performance at the Auditorium Jardins del Castell.

Girona has a lively nightlife and offers a wide variety of bars, restaurants and cafés serving anything from local Basque and Catalan delicacies to traditional tapas and an array of international cuisines.

Other popular landmarks to see are the 14th-century Sant Feliu, the historical fortifications, the 11th-century Monastery of San Daniel, and the characteristic Girona Bridge.

Girona Train station offers direct links to bustling Barcelona and the picturesque province of Portbou. Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation options and deals in Girona and around Catalonia.

A beautiful city, with medieval historic center, museums and great restaurants, beautiful views of the river and apartments reflected on the water, the stone bridge and others, nice and friendly staff at the Tourism Office. Would return to Girona more than Barcelona. Easy transportation to Palafrugell and the hop on hop off bus to Tamariu, Calella and Llafranch. We stayed in Calella just during the day but loved it. Could not visit the Cathedral in Girona due to so many steps and we are in our 70's.......

Fabulous place to spend a few days.

Fabulous place to spend a few days. The old town has many historic attractions, great restaurants/cafes and very easily walkable. Parking can be an issue so go early to get a park at the free central areas, or park outside the city and take public transport. If you do have a car, go exploring the amazing little villages and towns within a 50km radius. Local people are super-friendly, even when we didn't speak much Catalan/Spanish

It is very hilly with a lot of steep steps to climb. The best part of Girona is the old Town. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Not much to see though would recommend Girona for a long week-end to experience Spain. Not much to see or do in the New Town down by the main river.

Panoramic views from ancient town walls and steep hilltop locations that overlook the mountains in the distance. Beautiful cobblestoned streets and secret staircases help you wind your way to all of the sights including the Arab Baths, the dramatic Girona Cathedral and Sent Felieu. Plenty of lively cafes to take a coffee or enjoy an aperitif, and generous and welcoming locals. Across the river from old town and larger avenues and shops and local life. Walk up to Sant Daniel to see the views and just enjoy a vigorous workout climbing between sights and then descending again. Lovely town, full of life, cyclers, and university students. Great vibe. September visit, so less crowds than summer.

We were in Girona for an orienteering race and then sadly had to move on. We would love to return for a couple of days to explore properly as the town was so pretty with lots of cobbled alleyways and interesting city walls. We were told by friends that the cathedral is stunning, but did not have time to visit. Next time! We had good eating experiences (lots of al-fresco places to eat on Placa de la Independencia) and were well looked after by everyone we encountered. We really hope to be be back.

I've been to Girona three times and always enjoy the Spanish atmosphere there. The old historic part of the town is great to visit with a lot of interesting things to see and it has nice cafes. I enjoyed visiting the indoor market which has a great selection of stalls. There are also lovely shops, restaurants and bars. From the train station you can visit Barcelona, the Dali Museum at Figueres and I have also taken a local bus from Figueres to Escala on the coast which has nice beaches. Enjoy!

We had a junior suite which was large and comfortable. It included all the facilities you would need. Location was perfect for short walk across one of many bridges to old town. Japanese restaurant next door with healthy and reasonably priced meals. Plenty of eating options in Plaza de la Independencia 5 mins walk away or in old town across river. All the key sites within easy walking distance of hotel. All staff very helpful. No noise at night from within or outside. A modern hotel and good value for money

Well appointed self catering apartment, good location 200m from the beach. Clean and comfy beds. Host helped us with travel and bus information to get to/from Girona city. This apartment is in Sant Antoni de Collange, about 40km from Girona City itself. Staying in this property was one of the best parts of our 7 days in Spain and the coast and beaches here are very clean and lots of places to eat.
