FAQs about hotels in Helsinki

Nordic Daughter of the Baltic

Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.

Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the center of Senate Square.

From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandanavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.

Lovers of Nordic design will be thrilled by the Design Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum. Nature is in abundance on the beautiful archipelago which lies along the coast. A must-see is the Baltic fortress of Suomenlinna, where you just might forget you’re in a big city.

Whether you head to a sauna or amusement park when you disembark from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport, with over 65 hotels, apartments and hostels, Booking.com has the perfect place for your Scandinavian stay.

Helsinki is just a wonderful city. Not too big, not small. Lots to do. Beautiful environment. The town has grown with the times, adding some modern buildings without sacrificing the old world charm. Architecture spectacular. Would go back if I plan a trip in that area again.

Great compact city with friendly locals. Do a walking tour. Ours contained a lot of insights into the city, people and culture. Recommend trying a sauna. We went to Löyly. A fantastic, exhilarating experience.

We did not come across anyone who did not speak English, and, when asked. would stop to help with directions. We did the hop on hop off bus (€27 each) which gave a good tour round. We also did the Royal line boat tour of the islands, (another €27)which was worth doing.. Helsinki centre is very walkable, mostly flat. Just wear decent shoes for the cobbled streets. Strongly advise using pedestrian signals when crossing roads. bicycles, trams and cars seem to come from nowhere! Also cars can turn right on a red light, onto a green pedestrian crossing, which is a bit unnerving !

Helsinki is a friendly, clean city with extremely efficient transit service. We loved the sauna culture and visited a public pool to experience it first-hand. We took a 5 hour e-bike tour through Trip Advisor and that was amazing, especially since the guide introduced us to the public pool and saunas. Biking is the perfect way to see Helsinki and ride through the many forest city trails. The Oodi Library downtown is a must-see, very beautiful as was the ferry to Suomenlinna. We came across Tripla Mall while visiting a laundromat and that was the perfect shopping experience. We recommend visiting Helsinki and would love to visit other towns in Finland in the future.

Very nice city, fairly small, so it's easy to go aroung and see many things in a short time. Also, Helsinki can be used as a basis so as to visit nearby areas, like Porvoo etc. Our kid appreciated all the different, fantastic playgrounds we discovered in the city. (they are many :-) The Old market with all the food stalls was amazing, it's absolutely worth visiting. Suomenlinna is also very much worth visiting. Helsinki has a very extended coastline, and I loved walking around it. Make sure you don't miss the sauna experience.

The Apartment is indeed very well connected with the public Transport System. With a few steps you can get to the Tram and Bus lines, but we didn't notice any traffic noise in the night. Even the metro is in comfortable walking Distance. On top of that there are many great Restaurants in the area wich are much cheaper that the ones in the City Center! Also the public Saunas in the area are much cozyer and more authentic than the ones in the City Center. The owner is very friendly and flexible, kind regards and many thanks!

For me, the location was perfect because I don´t like driving in Helsinki city center. From the hotel, there is a 15 min walk to the train station with direct connection to the center. Also, there is free parking outside the hotel. The hotel looks unassuming from the outside but the the room is very fresh and has everything needed. The hotel is moderately priced and it is my new favourite in Helsinki.
