A French Spa Town
Aix-les-Bains is a French city in the Haute Savoie area of the Rhône-Alpes region. Situated on the shores of Lake Bourget, the largest and deepest natural lake in the country, this town inspired several artists and became famous by world-known writers like Xavier de Maistre, Honoré de Balzac, and Alexandre Dumas.
Located about 15 km from Chambéry, Aix-les-Bains features a great architectural mix of Art Deco buildings, Roman monuments and Italian-style houses. You can enjoy a romantic stroll around the vibrant avenue of Marie de Solms or visit the Faure Museum, a 19th-century villa with paintings and sculptures.
Thanks to its blue waters and long beaches, Aix-les-Bains offers a selection of outdoor activities like lake cruises, swimming and sailing during the summer months. In winter, travellers can go skiing in the nearby Grand Revard Mountains or just relax in a thermal spa.

The Lac is a big draw for us on holiday but the lovely park, busy town centre and friendly people make it a home away from home. It’s almost like a two centre holiday. One of the most beautiful locations in France. The most spectacular Alpine scenery you could wish to see is all around you. Fabulous places to eat and drink in town and around the lake. The town itself has a lot of nice restaurants - we tried L'évasion and could strongly recommend it to others for it's mix of local products and Mediterranean cuisine. There is a pedestrian area where there are some nice terraces and a few interesting shops - the road traffic around this area is intense, noisy and smelly. Of course there is the riviera area around the lake Bourget which is very picturesque and offers lots of water activities in season. The photos of this hotel do not accurately reflect the rooms, which were small, dark, dingy, with chipped paint and a small out of date shower. The restaurant had plastic chairs and tables. It does face the lake, but the rooms are over priced. When we complained management said to booking dot com that we did not show, evidently not true. Interesting hillside town. Lots to do. There is a great lakeside cycle path. We rented e-bikes from Takamaka Sports. They were in great condition and the young staff member who served us was very helpful.
