Bergerac is a beautiful town in the Dordogne, we loved walking around the historic area, it feels very safe and is hilly enough to add to the character but not too hilly to spend the whole day walking around. The Port on the Dordogne River is nice, we did the boat ride, you don't see much as far as houses or buildings but there was plenty of wildlife to see, Osprey, Egrets and they even found a Kingfisher for us so see. Great base for exploring the Dordogne area. Train and bus facilities enable public travel over a large space but a car can give more freedom. The restaurants were in good supply and we found most excellent quality and value. Easy to get around the town and people are friendly and helpful. Bergerac is a lovely town to visit with lots of interesting things to see. Lots of good restaurants. The train station is a 10 minute walk from the centre and has a good service for visiting nearby places. Bergerac is a beautiful place and full of life in the summer. The season hadn't quite started yet when we visited and it was fairly quiet but still a very lovely place to visit with plenty of bars and restaurants open. The Saturday flowers, fruit and veg market had some amazing produce. The river views are spectacular as is the whole of the Dordogne region and Bergerac is very relaxing.
