FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

First-class Shopping, Culture and Sports

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centers. Well-known for its M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it's also a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city center hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping center, and behind that is Digbeth Bus Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Center) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just across the street is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modeled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top soccer clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

    Birmingham a complete dump.

Birmingham a complete dump. Never been before and will certainly never go again. Rubbish everywhere. Road signs suggested very unpleasant goings on. A real eye opener and sad to see in our country such a mess.

Birmingham is a lovely place to stay.

Birmingham is a lovely place to stay. So vibrant with lots to see and do. It also is easy access to other places. We found people helpful and friendly. We had a meal at Lost and found. Wonderful place delicious food and attentive staff. We also went to see a show the Body Guard which was wonderful and made for the perfect evening. The trams are a great way to get around and stopped so close to our hotel we had no fear of being out late.

We were positively impressed with Birmingham.

We were positively impressed with Birmingham. It was clean (we had been expecting a lot of rubbish due to the recent strikes) and many new buildings. Great use has been made of the canals and surrounding areas. Some great places to eat within easy walking distance and some interesting places to visit, such as the Coffin Museum.

    Cosmopolitan, but really friendly.

Cosmopolitan, but really friendly. Lots of interesting places to visit - notably the Jewellery Quarter Museum (take the tram) and the Back2Backs Museum (by Chinatown). Obviously, fantastic shopping in the Bullring and many other shopping centres etc and the Gas Street Canal area was interesting (probably even more so at night when it really comes alive!). With the recent death of Ozzy Osborne (Black Sabbath) there's plenty of 'memorials' to him currently. If historical and cultural buildings are 'your thing' then there's plenty to see and do. We were surprised by the significant amount of 'open spaces' for the residents/workers of Birmingham to relax in the centre of the City. Don't overlook Birmingham as a city centre destination!

If you have a special reason to go to Birmingham like an event, then it is ok but Birmingham itself is rather scruffy and dirty looking. Ok for shopping. Canal part & area with restaurants & bars is nice also the complex where Symphony Hall is nice. People were very friendly, polite & helpful.

I was pleasantly surprised with the city, clean and friendly. Be aware that the restaurants stop serving food earlier than other places I have been too, unless surviving on fast food is an option for you. A lot to see and do. The train station is quite difficult to navigate to begin with,

The staff at Britannia Hotel Birmingham are true ambassadors of customer service. Even though I was in Birmingham well before the 3pm check-in time, they still accommodated an early check-in without any additional charges!! They were very helpful throughout my stay and answered any questions I had! PS. The location of the hotel is SUPERB! Right in the heart of the city centre!!!

The room was exactly like the picture with great double size beds for a twin room. The bathroom was very spacious and clean as well. The location of the hotel was perfect too from the city centre with trams and buses stopping literally in front of the hotel from the centre. I would definitely stay there again if I visit Birmingham.

The staff were all very accommodating, personable and friendly. The room was comfortable and had all necessary facilities for a family with young children (including cot and use of a high chair). Parking was convenient. The city centre and Broad Street area is within relatively easy walking distance from the hotel.

I love old grand Victorian railway hotels, and the Burlington is not only ideally placed for Birmingham New Street station but also the shops, restaurants and museums of the city centre. Nice large rooms, great breakfast, friendly staff - highly recommended.
