FAQs about hotels in Cardiff

The Pride of Wales

Capital of Wales, Cardiff is a wonderfully green city steeped in national pride. At its heart is enormous Bute Park, divided by the River Taff and named after the marquis that once lived in Cardiff Castle overlooking it. In fact, this is just one of 5 castles within the surrounding area.

Over the road is Cathays Park, a beautiful square flanked by Edwardian architectural masterpieces including Cardiff City Hall and the excellent National Museum of Wales. Another must-see is St Fagan’s National History Museum, one of Britain’s top attractions.

From Victorian arcades to the fabulous St David’s Center, shopping in Cardiff is fantastic. And there’s no shortage of pubs and restaurants for a short rest or meal. Those by Cardiff Bay have particularly pleasant views.

Also by the bay are the futuristic National Assembly for Wales and the Wales Millennium Center. Another year 2,000 landmark is the Millennium Stadium, a state-of-the-art venue for international rugby and soccer matches, as well as concerts. Next door is Cardiff Arms Park, home to the city’s rugby union team, while Cardiff City FC’s new stadium is in the west.

Cardiff Airport is further west near Barry and Booking.com have an excellent range of hotels, B&Bs and apartments both near there and in the city center.

What Guests Said About Cardiff:

As I only live in Newport

As I only live in Newport I already knew what to expect from the Capital We had a one night stay in the Royal hotel as we were going to a concert (simply Red) we had food at Miller and Carter but there are plenty of restaurants to eat at We stayed on the Sunday night the day of the Cardiff half marathon so very busy. Like most city’s parking is a bit of a nightmare best advice if possible take the train into the city as the station is in the heart of the capital and only a short walk to all the shops restaurants and sporting venues.

Cardiff is an interesting city to visit.

Cardiff is an interesting city to visit. There is a good mix of old and new - many attractive arcades to wander alongside modern shopping areas. There is a new bus station serving many local areas and a regular bus to take you to The Bay where there are many waterfront restaurants and boats to take you for a sail. There are theatres, galleries, museums etc. and the castle right in the centre of town, just a short walk away from the Principality Stadium, which has it's own lovely river walk.

Wales' natural beauty was beautiful, the towns were simple, and the people were friendly and trustworthy. We ate at restaurants in the city center, transportation was convenient, and there were plenty of things to do, but I was disappointed that I didn't have enough time to fully enjoy them.

The castle, national museum and city museum are excellent cultural venues. The Millennium Centre is an outstanding building on Cardiff Bay far better than the Senedd building. All venues are in walking distance of the centre. The bus service is excellent for visiting LLandaff Cathedral and St Fagan's outdoor museum: buy a day ticket and save money.

    An interesting City.

An interesting City. Initial impressions were negative on the first day but improved as we learned how to find our way around. Many helpful people around to guide us. The open top bus tour was good as was a boat trip around the bay. The Castle was a good visit. We found three brilliant restaurants for dinner.

It was a reasonably priced large room with free parking in a good location near Cardiff Bay. There's a short walk to a bus which runs between Cardiff Bay and the city centre. We got a day ticket for less than a tenner for both of us which we used four times so good value and cheaper than parking in the city. A lot less hassle too.

2nd stay at the Exchange. It really is a lovely hotel with very helpful staff. The breakfast is very good, with a buffet, help yourself selection of a cooked or continental breakfast. Cardiff Bay is 200m away, and it's a leisurely 20 minute walk to the city centre

Great location, 15-20min walk to City centre, or to Cardiff Bay, along the dock. Room clean, beds v comfortable and powerful shower. Breakfast excellent despite an 'express' hotel - full english, pancake machine and croissants etc.
