This was a marvellous stay! I am absolutely unable to fault them! Marvellous location, lovely quiet village. The pub itself is old and beautiful. The facilities are spot on, everything is clean. The beds are great. And as for the food - out of this world! We took our evening meal there on the day of arrival and the main course was very good. Then we came to the dessert - this was home made and so good that we all wished that we had room for a second helping. I would particularly recommend the bread and butter pudding with mincemeat - I wish that I could have sneaked a peek at the recipe! We'll just have to go back there the next time that we are in the U.K.! In other words, highly recommended and we have already marked it on our list of the best places to stay!

Chard seems a bit scruffy in places although the high street was nice. Parking is a problem if you don't have coins, the parking app is very disjointed. That isn't Chard's fault. This is just a first impression, wasn't able to fully explore as only a short stay. Surrounding countryside is stunning.

Chard has rather a lot of empty shops, but those which remain are very good. E.g., the local bakery and butchers are very traditional and a high standard. We saw an excellent amateur performance of 'The Sound of Music' in the Guildhall, indicative of a warm and caring community. Good local supermarket.

I came to visit family so I wasn't a tourist as such. However I do like Chard, it's got a nice community feel. The staff in shops are friendly and helpful. I love having a rummage in the charity shops and Home Bargains. We had a family lunch at The Bath House which was delicious and the people there are great too.

I remember Chard from my youth (1960's) and it had obviously changed in some ways but it is an interesting town with a good selection of shops and eating /drinking places. The old cinema of my youth (The Cerdic ? ) is now a Wetherspoons. I wish I had more time to explore.

A small town, not many places to eat out...we ate where we stayed at The Bath House Hotel and restaurant - a Malaysian fusion restaurant, rather pricey but a nice meal. A good base to travel on from or go to places to visit - we had a day in Sidmouth from Chard , so an easy place to travel from!!

Easy to find. We arrived around 9.30pm in the evening and had to try to find someone to check us in. But all very pleasant when we got to the room. We received an email after booking to warn us that the hotel would be noisy (Friday/Saturday night), so we were prepared. We would suggest taking earplugs if, like us, youarw first floor to the front of the hotel. Staff were friendly and breakfast was lovely.

Good location for my one night stay in Chard. Great breakfast great coffee. James and Katherine are excellent hosts, very attentive and helpful. The lodge is very interesting old house with many nooks and crannies and knick knacks which gives the whole place a comfortable homely feel. Excellent shower comfy bed and effective double glazing (my room faced main road).

Cosy Cottage was perfect! We stayed to visit family and attend the carnival, which is a big event in Chard. It was the perfect spot as the carnival went straight past the house. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay. We received a welcome pack, which was lovely, and we liked how Jane kept in touch throughout our stay, checking everything was going well.
