Lovely cottage - neat, comfortable and very homely. Listening to the running water in the Ghyll is so relaxing. Nice location - be careful of the back roads... i hit two tree roots and got a puncture, my advice is to simply slow down, especially on blind corners. Great neighbours - so kind and friendly, stopped to talk and help when I was stranded. Even offered me a cuppa. What an absolute gem of a place to stay xx

Tha wheatear was brilliant and the staff were so helpful and friendly. It was a nice view of the lake from the lake suite. The room with a private bathtub was the best choice for relaxing and couple celebrations. Also, the spa and swimming were available and cosy. At this time of year (December), the town was so beautiful and everywhere was decorated for Christmas. It was a dreamy trip.🎄✨️

Sawrey House is in the most gorgeous quiet location out of Windermere. It has a beautiful garden which can be enjoyed from the courtyard or the various seating areas inside. There’s wonderful food options- I had the afternoon tea and a charcuterie board and both were amazing. The staff were so helpful and it felt like a family stay away from home. I have already recommended this property to my friends.

What guests said about Crosthwaite:

It was so quaint and beautiful.

It was so quaint and beautiful. Perfect location for a family with small kids. U do definitely need your own car to get around but then everything is accessible. We spent a lot of time around Windermere but also went up to other great places in the Lake District. The house itself is spacious and clean and everything well though through.

The cottage was absolutely beautiful, a real home from home.

The cottage was absolutely beautiful, a real home from home. It was equipped with everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. Views from the cottage were lovely looking over the countryside. The garden was nice although we didn't sit out but is ideal for anyone with children or dogs as its fully enclosed. The roads to the cottage were quite narrow but certainly didn't put us off, as this is the case with a lot of roads in the area. It was ideally located 15 mins from Windermere and same to Kendal. Would recommend the Old Watermill pub for eating out, they are dog friendly and the food is beautiful but not too pricey. Will definitely book again.

The facilities are dated and all be aware the dogs are noisy...

The facilities are dated and all be aware the dogs are noisy especially if left in rooms on their own , and with being a dog friendly hotel , it should be identified that the rooms are not up to the cleanliness of a normal hotel, any movement in the night, the dogs bark and when one starts, they all go for it.

We loved the location but you need transport.

We loved the location but you need transport. If you are looking for peace and quiet in a rural location this is a great location. It is only a 15 min drive into Bowness so a busier, tourist location is nearby. The location is good for both central and south Lakes. We would recommend.

Not much to say because there isn't much in the village...

Not much to say because there isn't much in the village except a very nice pub/restaurant. However, returning to the solitude of the village after a day with the tourist masses in Windermere, Ambleside etc is welcome. There are some lovely walks around the village into the hills, though we didn't tread them on this occasion.

Very warm welcome from the friendly front of house. The room was good, nice four poster bed and everything needed in the room. Lovely spacious bathroom with a jacuzzi bath, too, a welcome surprise. The dog was made very welcome even in the dining room. This hotel is fabulous for dog owners. The facilities are fantastic, we used the pool, steam and sauna rooms which are included in the price which is overall fantastic value. We had an amazing time. The Lake District is absolutely stunning, and we will definitely return.

Lovely hotel, with a really nice garden and stylish interior and a small spa. We loved sitting next to fireplace in the evening which created a very nice atmosphere. Staff is very welcoming and helpful. Our twin room was small but cosy with all basics that you need for a short stay. Located in a driving distance from the main hikes and attractions. We haven't tried the restuarant, but breakfast was really good. This hotel is dog friendly which nice to see.

The location, facilities and staff were all top notch. The breakfast was exceptional and nothing was too much for the lovely young waiting on staff. The hotel is dog friendly, yet you wouldn’t know. There was no smell of dogs and the ones that were staying were very well behaved as there was no barking.
