almost becomes a ghost town when out of season. Many places ,shops and even restaurants closed down. The Island itself with its small coastal towns and outstanding countryside , slow relaxed lifestyle makes it in my opinion paradise for retirement which was what I was looking for. Douglas is a useful hub with some good restaurants and transport links. The Manx Museum is outstanding.We spent a lot of time exploring the Island which we enjoyed. Some fascinating history and locations and excellent museums. Douglas is a very long Promenade and I chose to stay the furthest end of the Pier to the town centre but having a bus stop outside to take you to the other end was ideal at £1.20 a trip . There are horse trams outside too to take you into Town. The Gaiety Theatre is a must. A walk through the sunken gardens at the Sea Terminal end is not to be missed and the highlight is Summerhill Glen at night with a lovely walk through ..free of charge..and the illuminations through the Glen are Magical.Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Douglas was very nice, very clean, no litter, very little chewing gum on pavements. The people obviously take great pride in their island and they are very friendly and helpful. We were due to book in at 3pm at the Best Western Palace so when we arrived at the hotel, we were wet through and very muddy. We couldn’t go to our rooms as we were too early, but we were allowed to use the pool, spa and showers to clean up and change into dry clothes.
