This place was perfect for my brother and me. It's within the cathedral close - you can see the cathedral and walk to it from the front door. It has a lift - no lugging luggage on stairs! It has parking! The included breakfast was very good. There's no TV, which is fine with me, and the Wi-Fi works. Also, it's a short walk to the Chapter House, a restaurant that wouldn't be remarkable except that it serves dry-aged beef!

The city of Salisbury is extremely beautiful with all the old buildings. The hotel is right near the center and the cathedral. Staff was very friendly even though we arrived very late. Lovely, very British design of the interior. Big room. Finally European faucets in the shower.

Everything was amazing - the staff, the view, the warm rooms, the breakfast. We will definitely refer all our friends to The Riverside and we will be back. And it was no trouble when we invited my brother to join us for breakfast. He too was so impressed that I am sure he will refer others.

The staff were solicitous and ensured I was comfortable and had all I needed while I was there. Thank you Hollie and Diane, Tracy and Michelle and all the others who contributed to my enjoyment and made sure I was well looked after! I loved my room (7), perfect for one. I loved my view of the river and the social atmosphere of the beer garden. I loved how close it was to Salisbury and the beautiful river walk into town. I loved how clean and fresh all the decor and the bathrooms were. It was all just perfect. Thank you!

I only stopped over for a night on my way down to the south coast but found the village pretty and well looked after. The houses with the thatched roofs are pretty and there are a couple of nice hostelries and a cafe. I would have liked there to be earlier opening eateries. Not much to keep you there any longer really.

This is a lovely property owned by the most amazing couple.

This is a lovely property owned by the most amazing couple. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome and comfortable. The property is in a lovely spot that it easy to find and although it looks close to a main road on a map, it doesn’t feel that way at all. The room was comfortable, clean and breakfast was great, lots of it and all fresh. There is a pub and petrol station which includes a Greggs and Asda within walking distance and Salisbury town centre is not that far, either by car or bus. I only wish I could have stayed longer.

If you're going to Downton (the real one!)

If you're going to Downton (the real one!) it can be at any tme of the year. There are ancient buildings, The Moot, St Laurence Church and pubs serving food, plus Downton is a great starting point for investigating the south of Wiltshire and adjacent areas of Dorset and Hampshire, including the New Forest. There are relatively easy walks in all directions: along the Avon, up on the Downs, and elsewhere - suited to those capable of only short walks as well as those who who might savour long distance routes trodden by monks and traders in medieval times. However you relax, Downton's now sedate pace should provide something to suit.

The Shorefield park at Downton is a lovely holiday park, clean, well kept and in a great location. Just a 15 minute walk to the beach, a 35 minut walk into Milfor od Sea and just a short drive into the New Forest. The facilities on site have everything you need if you don't want to venture out, i.e. Bar, Restaurant, Gym, Swimming Pool and evening entertainment. I would highly recommend it.

The local view of The Bull is "only go there if you want a fight or drugs" - i'd say that is pretty accurate. As for our room, the plumbing barely worked, the noise from ventilation ducts was intolerable and the TV didnt work, not that it would have been audible above the noise. Dreadful place and I dont have particularly high standards.
