There were lots of local walks, perfect for dog owners. Great play facilities for children and plenty of good places to eat - all well identified on the free map of Ellesmere. The sculpture trail was interesting and would be great fun to do with kids. The mere is lovely for an early morning walk. The snack at the Boathouse, overlooking the water was nice and the coffee very good - there was no pressure to finish quickly. The food at the Red Lion was excellent, great range and good value for over 60's. The map of Ellesmere was excellent and made the whole stay more pleasurable.Guest review byThornton - 10.0

The Red Lion is well situated within walking distance of the town centre, and also a short walk away from the Mere which is Ellesmere's main attraction. The town is very interesting and compact, and is served by bus to Shrewsbury and the Welsh Border.
