Of our two week travel from Denmark through north-west Germany, the Netherlands and eastern England, the Pier Hotel was undoubtedly the best in all aspects: staff, facilities, price and a beautiful breakfast. We will certainly book again when we travel between Harwich and Hook of Holland.

I loved the sea view, the 4 patio doors that are in the living area which lead onto the spacious balcony and AstroTurf flooring, the modern yet classic design, the maritime feel, the ships lights at night, the sofa which gives a brilliant relaxing view over the sea, lovely at night - to classic FM on their smart TV and the little lamp on... perfect. We never closed the curtains as the view was so comforting. It took me back to the 80s when I used to live in the area. The light house is a real time landmark for me as I was baptised there in the sea as a kid at the Olive Tree Christian Fellowship (back in the 80s) and the beautiful pictures of that same lighthouse in the flat was perfect, I couldn't have asked for anything better. The picture in the 2nd bedroom (with twin beds) had the old pier that I used to walk on as a kid with my dad, this really was the cherry on the cake. Words cant describe the absolute tribute to Harwich that flat is. Amazing place. If you want to feel the spirit and vibe of Harwich in a modern, yet cosy, warm and classy way, then this is the place I recommend. The host laid on a decent bottle of M&S gin and rose, some chocolates and shortbread, not expecting that at all. We are very grateful and wish the hosts many more years of health and happiness. Don't go anywhere else!

Harwich is much underrated as it is a particularly historic and attractive area with great views and local pubs. On the other hand, its somewhat unfashionable image and relatively remote location mean it rarely gets overcrowded - even on sunny summer holiday days.

Harwich as a place is fair, but I would guess for most of us we are there for a ferry or cruise ship. In other words docks not the seaside. It may be a better place than we realise as we can only comment on its convenience for us in a useful starting point for visiting the continent

The people are so welcoming from the international station to Parkston,, a lady let me know directions.. even gave me a lift to where I was staying.. a boy in the morning led me to where I needed to go,, the areas nice for walks What I don't like about the town is.. locals in Dover court.. there doesn't seem to be anyone normal.. they come across rude.. weird and there's a lot of drugs in town.

If you love history Harwich is an absolute treat. The historic centre is tiny - Harwich is tiny!! - but there is so much to see and do. Plus, depending on the time of year, you can always get the foot ferry to Shotley or Felixstowe.

The sole reason of visiting Harwich was to take the car ferry to the Hook of Holland. We walked around Harwich town before leaving and were quite disappointed to see it was run down. There didn’t seem to be many bright spots there, so no reason to return.

The hotel does not look great from outside but has all necessary facilities. The room we stayed in was specious and warm. The bed was comfy so we had a good night sleep. The breakfast was basic but good enough for its price. We travelled with our dog so the location was great since there was a park nearby. It takes less than 10 minutes by taxi to reach Harwich international which is another possitive. We would return or recommend it.

Staff were great, despite being very busy split between the restaurant, bar and hotel guests. Additionally, as its primarily a restaurant, it's less roudy than staying at a pub. And the food was great!
