A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

It took a while to find a real pub, but the Glenalbyn was great. Way too many glitzy bars or eateries pretending to be pubs though. I've been to Inverness before and always enjoyed the atmosphere in this city. If you want to experience more of the Highlands, book your tours ahead of time. Whatever tour you book, it's always worth it. The scenery is extraordinary and listen to the locals: their accent gives you a very special feeling during your stay. Did not spend any time in the city, I’m not a city person so I was delighted that Glamness has the vibe of the grounds of some country house that it may once have been. The owners have thought carefully about the siting of the cabins for privacy and convenience. The cabins are newly done and super clean. Easy self check in and out. This was the ideal spot to finish our coast to coast cycle ride. Few facilities in the area so a trip to tescos and use the self catering facilities was the best option.Guest review byRichard - 10.0
The night life was very lively.
The night life was very lively. However, that might have been due to the Loch Ness Marathon event on Sunday, with around 10,000 runners, and more friends, family and supporters in the town, including myself. All the pubs and restaurants were packed on Saturday night and the train leaving on Monday morning had standing room only. It was a lovely town, with the beautiful, wide, River Ness flowing through it. There seemed to be lots of space to move around and crossing the roads was easy during the day. The train station is right in the main part of town. Lots of hotels are easy walking distance, even hauling luggage! We went out of Inverness to the Loch, to see Urquhart Castle and out on the Firth, which were great experiences, but I wish we had had the time to also see the museum and go on a walking tour of Inverness itself. We did use GetYourGuide to meet a lovely woman who made us lunch in her home with locally foraged ingredients, and then we engaged her to take us around Inverness a bit and out to Culloden. Well worth the cost! We enjoyed McGregor's Whisky Experience and had a great meal at Auctioneer's Pub. We spent some time at Hootenanny's, but I would have liked to have more time to listen to even more music at more locales. Leaky's bookstore is worth a drop-by. I found some lovely old prints there. And if you are headed into the Highland Moors for hiking, go to Graham's across the street from the Castle. Interesting museum & indoor market.
Interesting museum & indoor market. The castle was not open just now. Nice walk along the river towards the Botanical Gardens which are very small but pleasant with a cafe. Interesting nearby to see the end of the Calededonian Canal & easy buses back to the centre from the Park & Ride near there. Went to the Eden Theatre for the Scottish Ballet about Mary Queen of Scots which was wonderful & such a nice theatre. Good evening meal at the Mustard Seed cafe but it was very busy and there was a need to book. Left luggage at the Bus Station was good and cheaper than leaving luggage at the Railway Station., except it had to be collected by 5pm.Guest review byIanUnited Kingdom

It is an easy walk from the train station (Inverness is very walkable) and the apartment had everything we needed. There were lots of helpful notes around the apartment for the various things, a coffee machine (not a coffee drinker but others would find this amazing) and a washing machine.
