It was a stopover for us.
It was a stopover for us. If I had known more about the region we would have orranged an extra night. We did do a tour of the Dalwhinnie Distillery on our way south which was great. Make a booking - we were lucky as we hadn't made a one but there was two extra spots. Loved the Duke of Gordon hotel. So very old school and so beautiful. Kingussie is a beautiful town, brilliantly located in the middle of Scotland, within reach of many wonderful sites of interest, including historic Ruthven Barracks, a number of castles and gardens, the stunning Cairngorms, and much more. A lovely little highland town very clean and tidy good transport links and Ruthven barracks were well worth a visit about a mile walk from the railway station places to eat and drink we stayed at the Duke of Gordon hotel and we ate there food was excellent and the bar was well stocked and friendly there was also the Star hotel where you could eat and drinkGuest review byGaryUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Kingussie is a lovely little town in a beautiful setting in the Scottish Highlands. Beware, most cafes and shops are closed on Sundays and some on Mondays too! We ate at The Star Hotel which has friendly staff, good food and is very popular with locals and holidaymakers alike. Not a place I have thought of staying before but it was a lovely but short stay. Everything was above what we expected and we could have stayed longer and ventured to other areas close by and probably will stay again.
