The street containing the Harboro hotel has a 14thC building in the shape of the Anne of Cleeves pub. It was rebuilt at some point but nevertheless is a fascinating edifice. Across the road is another ancient building. The A of C was gifted to her by Henry VIII when he was feeling guilty about swapping her for A Boleyn. Stayed there to break journey up.Walked around town centre,good selection of shops for size of town including a famous pork pie shop. Plenty of parking. Nice quiet market town with plenty of history and quite a few pubs, with plenty of places to eat The anne of cleaves pub was lovely with posh pub food (mussels, big burgers etc) Most things in walking distance We stayed for one night at the harboro pub/hotel which was very central, had a great menu and an indian restaurant attached with friendly staffGuest review byS. Great market and good pubs.
Great market and good pubs. Good choice of supermarkets within 5 minutes drive, Sainsbury’s being the largest. Although we came by car, the railway station is only 3 minutes walk from The Willows. Local people very friendly and it felt very safe to walk at night. We did a pork pie making class at Brockleby’s who have just won pie of the year award and it was great fun. They also do bread making classes. We enjoyed the antique fair on market day with some very friendly stall holders. We will return to this lovely town. We enjoyed the Anne of Cleves pub . Pleasant walk down lane (not many cars as no through lane) to village & church. Saw horses, hares, herons etc. Local Melton Mowbray Country Park was free & lovely to walk dog around.
