Paignton is a great place to be based to explore the local area. Trains, buses and seasonal ferry boats to several local towns. Plus it is nice and flat for long walks along the prom, to the harbour and high street. High street is a little jaded with amusement arcades but same as other towns I imagine.

Last time we visited Paignton it was pleasanter no eyesores along the prom.we ate at leisure complex and family who came to see us loved the pool especially the water slide and the slot machines kept them amused.

Paignton has a long expanse of golden sand, a pier with a large choice of amusements, plenty of parking along the front, kids play area, crazy gplf, Vue cinema, harbour all close together. Inland town 5 mins walk, large railway station steam trains, eating places galore, a Wetherspoons, chippy, ice cream and doughnut places it has everything

My grandparents used to live in Paignton, so I have a personal connection to the town. I first stayed there when I was 2 years old. The town is somewhat shabbier than it used to be, and the range of shops in the town centre is more limited. Howeverm I would still recommend it as a good place to stay, especially for young families and pensioners. It has good beaches, and prices there are reasonable.

The hotel,we stayed at was great,5 mins from the beach and pier, and about 10-15 mins from the high street, train station and bus station, had all the amenities that we required, the people were friendly and welcoming, and it was so clean and tidy, can't wait to return next year. Would recommend anyone to visit,or stay even for a few days. The zoo is only about 10 mins away by car,or you could walk it (if you are up to it)or there is a bus that drops you right outside the zoo. We even went to Torquay for a few hours,(5mins by train) We had fish n chips on the pier,a jacket potato from a place called the spud shack,( highly recommend) There were also cafes and bites, couple of pubs, and other eateries, also a place called Devon's finest, there cakes, are so delicious. hmmmmm😋😋😋, Getting around was no problem, even for wheelchair users.

It was right on the seafront with parking . It was comfortable, relaxing and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The dinner service ran like clockwork with enough staff to feel 5* at a 2* small seaside Paignton hotel . The meal was very tasty and 3 courses which I didn’t expect. The room , even though it was dated and not very big , was perfect and had windows onto the side park and the view over the sea . The beds were very comfortable and not soft .

Of all hotels that are a similar rate, this is the most modern and inviting to look at. The hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas and gave such a warm inviting feel. The room was a great size and the bed was enormous and comfortable. Overall the best Mercure hotel i’ve ever stayed at and will be returning on our next visit to Devon. The staff were attentive and friendly, particularly a lady called Sarah. She makes fantastic cocktails too!

The facilities exceeded our expectations, the staff were very polite and helpful, fantastic location, spacious comfortable room. The location of the hotel was a stone’s throw from the centre of Paignton, and just a 15 minute drive from Torquay.

Fabulous location for access to the town and beach, but note this property is on a slight hill. Paignton is also a good location for exploring other parts of Devon.
