A good focal point to stay, the rest of the island was easy to navigate. We came across on the ferry from Poole with our own car. The historic sights were amazing, great people who engaged with us to give lots of welcome information. For mid October we had dry, sunny weather most of the time. It would have been good to know that you have to book ahead for the tour of the island bus as there were only two running when we were there. The people were all lovely and very friendly. Wonderful sights, beaches and independent shops. We are in an Indian restaurant which was excellent also an Italian restaurant which was also excellent. Both were easy to get to walking or by taxi. The local bus service was very good. The beaches are family and pet friendly but remember to check the tides! The bus service throughout the island is excellent and St Helier is a thriving town with a good variety of shops and restaurants etc. All the people I met throughout my stay were tremendously helpful and obviously really enjoy working there. I was last there in 1971. It has been taken over by too many yuppie and banking types, but this is true of most tourist resorts. This forces up prices for everyone, including the locals, many of whom are forced to move out - just like the UK.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10

Its a beutiful and quite town. I love the ups and downs and narrow roads. Scenic beauty, beutiful and very clean beaches, lots of restaurants. And the tide spectacle. St Helier is a great base for exploring Jersey by bus (as we did). The town itself is not pretty but the main bus station means you can get around the island really easily (and more environmentally friendly than hiring a car). The museum is really excellent and gave us a fantastic overview of the history, geography and stories of Jersey. We spent a week going around the coast by bus and walking, often finding lovely secluded beaches. We are in our 60s but managed the walks fairly easily. Lots of ups and downs, so you do need good walking boots and a certain level of fitness. Hotel is 5 minutes from the town centre and 10- 15 minutes' walk to the Bus Station. Staff were really friendly.
