Liked · EXCEPTIONALLY PEACEFUL AND CLEAN ACCOMMODATION. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. From the moment we we arrived at Maplestone we were made to feel really welcome. Alan showed us to our room and made us a pot of tea with cake and sat with us in the garden, great service. Alan is an excellent host with a friendly, professional manner with great local knowledge. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Exceptional breakfast was plentiful and delicious with great choice. The property has a beautiful, quiet garden with tables and chairs to relax in. Would definitely stay again. We only came because we were going to a funeral, shepton doesn't really have lots of pubs/restaurants to go to, the bar at the shrubbery and the club were the best.,it's difficult to get taxis,does have Interesting buildings to visit church/prison.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Apart from using the B&B at Maplestone as a base for a two day visit to Longleat, we didn't really explore anywhere else other than visiting two local pubs to have our evening meals i.e the Mendip Inn (twice) and the Thatched Cottage - the food in both was extremely good and the staff in both places couldn't have been more helpful.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0

Shepton Mallet has some lovely old buildings and much to see of interest in the area. Not much in the way of nightlife but we weren't looking for that anyway. Some of the shops /pubs are sadly empty but that seems to be happening everywhere these days.Guest review byAndyUnited Kingdom - 6.0
The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down.
The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down. Collet park is nice just off the centre. It feels safe, family friendly. It is very convenient for access to Wells and the palace and Cathedral, East Somerset Railway is great. The prison is worth a visit. Tired old hotel with rooms with peeling paint, broken cupboards and windows and dirty curtains. Had to go up 4 flights of stairs to get to attic room that was being used by the construction staff renovating the spa. Food was limited choice and of porr quality for the money that was being asked and charged. No phone in the room so had to climb up and down 4 flights of stairs to get any service. There were two of us so we had a bedroom each which was great. It was easy to settle in and when we had a query Trevor was there in a flash to sort it out. The kitchen was a great size and the adjacent dining area was cosy too. It was definitely quirky but retained a homely feel. Parking was easy; one car outside the front entrance, the other on the road. There was everything we needed. Flexibilty with Late check out was appreciated. Helied with racing numbers. Spacious room , long bath plenty of hot water. Helpful lady knocked next morning to ask we we wanted anything and provided us with more coffee and milk. Comfy bed. Pub too with food but we were at wedding so didn't use.
