We stayed in Stanley due to the proximity to the Beamish open air museum just a short drive away. The bluebell inn, just a short walk from the Ball Alley, is a restruant within a pub, not a pub serving food. The food had a turkish theme and was wonderful. The hotel is in a glorious setting. It had a luxurious feel. Our ground floor room was stunning. Breakfast and dinner were very good though we enjoyed dinner very much it was costly which could put us off staying longer. That said Bed and Breakfast was fairly priced and the staff is a credit to the hotel. The receptionist was warm and welcoming and this was consistent throughout the hotel. The purpose of our stay was to be close to the Beamish Museum. Beamish working museum was amazing and would highly recommend; it has lots of interesting areas to visit. The staff were knowledgeable and very helpful. There was regular transport to get you around the site. Plenty of food stations and places to rest. Beamish is a must and still adding more interesting historical attractions. The fish and chips are a must, you could buy a smaller portion called a Dab - more than enough; cooked in traditional beef dripping which brought some memories. A fabulous trip down memory lane. Remember to charge your mobile as there are lots of pictures to be taken. We visited a pub called The Blue Bell, with Turkish cuisine which was very tasty. Nicely decorated, and warm and inviting. Staff very friendly. The Ball Alley was situated in a great spot to enable to easily access Beamish, it was also situated near a garage & shop. The room was very clean and had all of the essentials like soap, shower gel and towels. The room also had a kettle with coffee and tea making facilities. The town has good transport links via the Stanley bus station and there is enough shops there to keep you going.
