We liked -Trentham Gardens - the museum of authentic kilns in Longton -the living mining museum. The gold mine. - the wonderful hill walks in the nearby Peak District - the nearby towns of Leeks and Buxton -the friendliness of people - We often had tea or coffee in the local tea-rooms. I went to play in the Stoke Chess Congess August 2025, and the Town Hall was great and my nearby accommodation on Cornwallis road was good. Stoke has the feel of a poor working class town, but has it's own vibrancy. Had a great meal with friends at the Sangam next to the Spode Rose Garden. The pub is a friendly local with good real ale and very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast is a self-service affair in the shared guest kitchen, which we only bothered with one but was fine. It is located in Stoke, not far from other pubs and restaurants, but bear in mind that Stoke (Town) is just one part of Stoke (city) and the city centre itself is in Hanley, a couple of miles to the north.
