Extraordinary Castle with world-class artworks and Dolls' House. St George's Chapel, in the Castle grounds, a late Gothic masterpiece with fan-vaulting on the ceiling, contains the burial places of various monarchs, including the modest tomb of the late Queen Elizabeth II in a side chapel, and also Charles I and Henry VIII. Changing of the Guard (view online for the times). Light meals and ice-creams available inside Castle grounds. Check the Royal Collections Trust for opening times and tickets, advisable to book. 17th C Guildhall, where the King and Queen were married, as it is the local register office. Town has too many souvenir shops. M&S cafe upstairs (Peascod Street) offers good-value breakfasts and lunches. Town hilly, wear comfortable shoes. We hired a mobility scooter from Shopmobility, wow, fantastic help and service and parking included. Loved Windsor Castle, didn't realise there was so much to see and do. Staff were so helpful in guiding us around. There is access for disabled people and we were really looked after and guided well. Nice coffee shops and ice cream shops. River walks and pub lunches lovely. Be careful of pickpockets! One approached my husband leaning on his scooter and 'resting' whilst checking out our baggage which we had secured very well. Visited for an evening guided tour of Windsor Castle, which was a wonderful 2 hour experience in a group of 30. Main day, we spent mainly in Windsor doing the Queens Walk which is a helpful way of seeing historic Windsor and the Long Walk. August obviously very busy time, so booking , if possible, for restaurants is recommended. Sofa bed a bit small for two children sharing but manageable. Lobby currently undergoing refurbishment so we were unable to fully experience the bar or restaurant area.
