An amazing place to stay. Very good location close to the metro station. View from the restaurant at the 8th floor is amazing - seeing Parthenon. Dinners (with half board we had) were amazing. Definitely recommend the place for stays in Athens.

The staff was great and very helpful. We were early arriving and they took care of our luggage until we returned from exploring the area and would have taken our luggage to our room but we declined that service. Everything was great.

FAQs about hotels in Athens

Dynamic City With 3400 Years of History

With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.

A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.

The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.

Athens has some of the finest museums in the world, such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.

Apart from the Acropolis, Athens has nothing to speak about.

Apart from the Acropolis, Athens has nothing to speak about. I visited Athens in 2005 and it was a clean and pleasant, prosperous city, but has declined over those twenty years. The dirt and graffiti in the centre are more akin to a third world country, and doesn't appear to be getting any better. I would avoid Athens in future, except for airport transfer.

Athens could be very enjoyable if the authorities would stop the ignorant irresponsible graffiti people from making Athens look poor and ugly. After a day in Athens you want to leave. The ugly graffiti gets to you. But clean up the graffiti and it would be a wonderful clean city very worth staying for a worthy holiday!

Athens, the historic capital of Greece, is a city that...

Athens, the historic capital of Greece, is a city that evokes strong emotions—both awe and disappointment. On one hand, it boasts a rich cultural heritage, with iconic landmarks like the Acropolis and the Parthenon standing as timeless testaments to ancient civilization. The layers of history are palpable, and for lovers of archaeology and mythology, the city offers a unique window into the past. However, the modern-day experience of Athens can be jarring. The city center suffers from visible signs of neglect: widespread graffiti, including disturbing hate symbols, and a sense of urban decay that clashes with its glorious past. Safety can be a concern, especially in certain neighborhoods, and the atmosphere often feels tense and unwelcoming. Surprisingly, interactions with local residents are rare—many visitors report feeling disconnected from the local culture, as if the city has lost some of its soul. Despite these challenges, Athens still holds value for short visits focused on historical exploration. But for those seeking charm, warmth, and a vibrant urban experience, the city may fall short of expectations.

We loved the attractions and landmarks.

We loved the attractions and landmarks. Plenty of shops and restaurants. I think it is imperative to have wifi and GPS to get around. The streets are narrow and look similar. My favorite place was the acropolis tour and museum. Guide was very knowledgeable. We also walked through the National Gardens which was lovely. We were able to get around Athens fairly well. We walked everywhere. Weather in late September 2025 was beautiful. 75-80 degrees and sunny. Cool nights.

Number one attraction was the Acropolis. Done.

Number one attraction was the Acropolis. Done. The rest was all gravy. Did the hop on-hop off tour to see some of the rest of the city. We also traveled extensively on the Metro. The language barrier wasn't a huge problem but there were fewer people that spoke passable English than I expected. Trying to follow street signs was almost impossible. Trying to find street names was almost impossible. GPS is a must. Couldn't ask for better weather, bright sunny skies every day we were there.

We had a wonderful experience. 5 nights in Plaka, 2 in Sounio and 4 in Glyfada. The Acropolis and other historic sites were incredible, so many lovely, cool and varied restaurants, bars and cafes - with brilliant rooftops and views. The people are SO friendly and any hospitality people we interacted with could not have done more for us! I would say that central Athens is a real mix of beautiful in Plaka and exceptionally run down in other areas so definitely do your homework to pick accommodation that is in a location you feel safe in.

The location was ideal as I was travelling from Athens the next day on the Ktel bus to Delphi. It was a short walk from the bus station. It was especially good as my Barclays account and the Greek bus company could not work together and I was unable to reserve my bus tickets until I got to Greece. Staying at the Roy meant I could go in person the day before I travelled. The hotelier explained the safety features of the room to me, which was excellent.

Beautiful sea views from the house and from several terraces. Quiet and peaceful place at night from day one. Fantastic seafood restaurant on the seafront a few hundred meters away. The owners are very nice and helpful. The house is fully equipped, comfortable. Athens centre is an hour away by public transport. We would love to come again. Paidon is everything it advertised. And a perfect place to stay as my end-of-trip accommodation. I was able to do simple cooking, launder all my dirty clothing and, of course, see more of Athens and Greece. It is only a 5-minute walk to the bus stop where I caught the X95 express bus to the airport. And the boss was very professional, polite and pleasant in handling my requests.

Aris and his team are without doubt the friendliest and most hospitable Hotel operators I have ever met. It felt like home. They greeted us with warmth at all times of the day and were always on hand to share recommendations for Athens and wider around Greece, or to simply chat and enjoy a drink at reception.
