Heraklio is the Big City on Crete. That said and while it is lovely there are more enjoyable towns and getting around is relatively easy. 4 -5 days in Heraklio was enough for us and the lure of other Cretan places was greater. Heraklion has a lot of car and bike traffic. It is like peak hour in Sydney constantly. Parking is horrendous. I would recommend staying out of Heraklion. Drive to Knossos Palace, but go early. The other attraction for us was the Archaeological Museum. Get a uber or taxi to that. The foreshore looks like they gave up on it years ago. Heraklion town is an interesting place.
Heraklion town is an interesting place. We did hop on hop off bus but there was not lot to see. We visited Knossos palace . We felt 3 days was ample . On our next visit we may visit the other towns in Crete.Guest review byAnn and johnAustralia
