The Sunny Side of Croatia
Stunning Split stands proudly on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, and due to its great climate is called the Mediterranean Flower. It features eclectic architecture, spectacular views and delicious cuisine.
Split is centred around the ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, a magnificent building constructed at the beginning of the 4th century AD and boasting limestone and marble towers, columns and courtyards. It lies in a bay decorated with white sails of yachts, as sailing is definitely Split’s big thing!
The city is full of architectural gems, one of which is St. Duje’s Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in the world, built in 305 AD and combining both Roman and Catholic influences. Nearby Varoš is a must-see, one of the city’s oldest parts, full of charming streets and beautiful houses.
Make sure you visit the Bačvice Beach and the Riva promenade, popular with locals and full of cafés and palm trees. While on the hunt for local specialities, try soparnik - wood-fired dough filled with vegetables - or local soda drinks Pipi and Orela.

We stayed for eight night and it was right.
We stayed for eight night and it was right. Planning each excursion and tour and other sight. We felt it just right. And really love the city. The Gastronomy is a beaut and the Karlivacko Radler was our favourite even the cakes and we ate at Buffet Fife. Wonderful place and the Marina is just great to watch. We just managed to find the way round with the help of Split map as a guide. We enjoyed all day sailing to the Solta island and stayed at Stomorska for lunch and swimming. We chose a hotel close to the old city that also had a pool and sunbeds - so a mix of city and sun holiday. We walked a lot - about 10 km every day, spent afternoons by the pool, and then evenings in some great restaurants in the place area. We enjoyed Split immensely.
We enjoyed Split immensely. The Palace is a must experience. We especially loved the Plaza. Local's were dancing to American 70's music and dancing ballroom style. Local's sat on the stone steps it's surrounded the dance floor watching the dances. Waiters walked around taking orders for cocktails that were served in crystal glasses.
