Setting the Standard
Bali’s oldest beach resort retains its reputation as a glamorous alternative to nearby Kuta. The coastline of Sanur has a long stretch of white sand lined with restaurants and bars. It is tailor made for chic clientele or families wanting to relax in an exclusive resort or villa without the need to party into the wee hours.
Sanur is also a popular day trip destination for tourists staying in Kuta looking to do some water sports. There are many companies offering diving along its submerged outer reef, jet skiing on top of its blue waters or paragliding in the cool breezes above this ocean paradise.
The shoreline features a cycle path that is also perfect for walking and jogging. At its very northern tip is the ferry terminal that offers boat trips to Nusa Lembongan, a small island off the southeast coast of Bali that is famous for its laid-back atmosphere.
Sanur has its fair share of markets providing an impressive range of artistic handicrafts such as wood carvings and batik paintings. Best of these are the Sindhu Market and the daytime beachfront market.
Sanur is the closest beach to the island’s capital, Denpasar, with its many temples and museums. Booking.com has a range of hotels along Sanur Beach or close to Ngurah International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport.

Sanur offers a much quieter and more relaxed atmosphere compared to other areas in Bali, making it a great choice for those looking to escape the crowds. The area seems to attract a more mature crowd, with many visitors from Europe, which adds to the laid-back vibe. There are plenty of great hotels and lovely restaurants to choose from, making it a comfortable and enjoyable place to stay. We chose Sanur this time because we were spending five days on Nusa Lembongan, and it was a convenient spot for that. One downside is the traffic, which can be quite hectic if you're planning to explore other parts of Bali. Also, during our stay, there were roadworks and footpath upgrades underway, which made getting around a bit difficult — but that’s only a temporary issue and should improve soon. Overall, I would definitely stay in Sanur again. It’s a peaceful area, and I imagine it would be especially quiet and relaxing during the off-season.Guest review byCindy AnnAustralia - 8.0

Beautiful relaxed area of Bali . Shopping and food was great. We used scooters to get around but everything is within walking distance, but many drivers, taxi and gojek also available. The hotel was in a good position right on the beach, the staff were helpful and friendly. I had a small medical incident not relating to the hotel and ended up in hospital for 2 days, a representative from the hotel came to visit me, bringing a box of complimentary fruit from the Mercure. He also arranged a courtesy car to collect me the following day and take me back to the hotel, and arranged a later check out from 12:00- to 2:00 pm complimentary, I would certainly recommend the Mercure in Sanur.Guest review byDeborahAustralia - 6.0

Like that the beach was not as congested with human traffic compared to some other spots. Good stretch of walking trail along the beach. The beach itself has a lot of debris, perhaps due to aftermath of flood from week before. Wish there is more selection of local food. Best beds we ever slept on, woke up with no pain in back and pelvic area and the pillows are good for the neck. All staff were great from the moment we stepped out of the car.
