Catania is only 15-20 minutes drive by car, depending on the traffic. Acitrezza was peacefull and we found the locals very kind, friendly and open hearted people. We dined well at Tratoria da Federico where we had delicious oysters fresh from local waters. The location is great for traveling north and south of the town. The view from the terrace is lovely! We arrived at night and it was a special surprise in the morning. The kitchen is very tiny and we were unable to reheat leftovers due to the lack of a microwave and our inability to use the oven. Acitrezza is a very beautiful village and is special due to the famous rocks called Faraglioni. Is a perfect location for visiting the eastern part of Sicily, There are nice restaurants, with good fish, pasta and pizza and of course very good ice-cream. You can have a nice walk on the promenade near the see and walk to Acicastello to see the Norman Castle. There are lots of places to take a bath from the rocks but also some platforms built over the see, with sunbeds and stairs to get into the water. They hade some fresh fruit and typical Sicilian biscuits ready as a welcoming present, they recommended me the best places to eat (with the best traditional plates), know their way around Aci Trezza - the local shops and bars and beaches, invited me to join them on a boat tour to see the Isole dei Ciclopi and the nearby castello and even organised a trip back to Catania airport. Although I was searching for accommodation in Catania, I was very pleased to find this hotel in Aci Terezza - in fact, I think it was a better choice than staying in the "city". Hotel - rooms are all modern, clean, well equipped. The scenery is great with the bay and the spectacular lava pillars.
