The Sassi is a must experience in your lifetime place!
The Sassi is a must experience in your lifetime place! A TukTuk tour is best if you have mobility issues as did a family member. The local wines and cuisine Materana are delicious and Restaurante Stano is a very good choice for an elegant evening out. Get up early and walk around the circumference of the Sassi before everyone else gets there, it’s magical. Well worth the visit.
Well worth the visit. Be prepared to navigate the long narrow up and down stony steps and it could be quite slippery when wet too. If you’re unable on foot there’s little tourist cart that can take you around for a “price” of course but one shouldn’t be discouraged young and old with disabilities. Matera is a magical place that is hard to describe in words. Yes, visually it’s breathtaking. There are photo opportunities around every corner, but take the time to walk the laneways slowly and really appreciate where you are. There are lots of stairs but there is no hurry to be anywhere so take a leisurely pace, stop for a rest, a meal, a drink or a gelato at the many cafes and restaurants.
