Montalcino is a wonderful little town overlooking one of the best wine regions in Europe. For me, this region has the best wine you'll find as they care about their grapes to a much higher standard. It's not touristy which means you get more authenticity. Montalcino is a quiet hill town that we love returning to often. We love walking all around town. A 4 hour hike gets you to Sant' Antimo Abbey and then you can take the bus back to town. We stayed in Montalcino two nights, which was about right for people who like wine but aren’t fanatics. Drove all over, got lost, went to Montepulciano (very crowded, steep and hard to get to—was very glad we stayed in Montalcino instead!) enjoyed the Abbey de Sant Altimo south of town, not overrun by people.Guest review byElizabethUnited States - 10
