We loved the place.
We loved the place. Taking boats to the village's and th island is a must. The restaurant on the island is wonderful with great food and if you sit by the window as we did a wonderful view. We love Orta San Giulio. It was our second visit.
We love Orta San Giulio. It was our second visit. We enjoy the town, the square, the restaurants and the views over the picturesque San Giulio Convent Island that you can reach by ferry and walk around quietly (it is a silent order of nuns) taking in messages on signboards that relate to life. We also visited the ancient St. Francis of Assisi Sacro Monte chapels (13 of them) on the top of the hill - a lovely place to reflect amid the quiet of the forest.Guest review byEsau - 10.0

This is a beautiful place, quieter than other lakes we visited and the town is easily explored on foot or by boat. It has a beautiful piazza and many bars and restaurants - but also historic monuments - such as a hermitage and the twenty shrines to St Francis. The old town is lovely, and pedestrian.
The old town is lovely, and pedestrian. Lots of ice cream shops and restaurants. it wasn't too crowded (mid-July). There is a lovely lakeside path, especially on the north side of town. You can take a boat to the island which only takes 5 mins. Walking around the island takes around 20 mins (it's an interior path so you don't see the lake much while on the island), but the church is lovely. You can also walk up (quite steep) to the 'Sacro Monte' on the hill with its many frescoed chapels and churches dedicated to St Francis of Assisi. It is a quiet and historic town - visit to the island was worthwhile and there is a nice park with views to walk in above the town. It is a long, steep, walk from the railways station though! The location of the hotel is perfect, easy walking distance to the local square, cafes, bars and restaurants as well as exploring the lake. The continental breakfast had a lot of choice, the yoghurt was especially delicious.
