Small and not overrun with lots of foreign tourists. Station very convenient so easy to use as a base to visit Asissi, Spoleto and Perugia, yet plenty to see in Spello. A delightful little hill town. Spello is a beautiful, super-friendly village that was the perfect town in which to decompress and enjoy a gentler pace of life after spending time in bigger cities. Spello is by far the most beautiful town in the area.
Spello is by far the most beautiful town in the area. Inside the Roman wall, everything is beautifully maintained. There is fine dining of a quality far above what you would expect in a small town, Il Molino and La Cantina are exceptional. You do need a car to explore the area. Train travel to Roma and Firenze is easy which makes it a good base. Everything you need or want is within walking distance, but have to be able to walk up hills or it will be too difficult and you will miss most of it. I was there during the quiet of winter. Spello is a very pretty village in Umbria. Our accommodation was at the base of the hill overlooking a piazza. Our host very kind and he was there to meet us and explain the accommodation.
