FAQs about hotels in Turin

Shrouded in Sophistication

Italy’s first capital, sophisticated Turin has many elegant buildings and porticoed streets. Large Piazza Castello is the focal point and centres on Palazzo Madama, an unusual structure with a Renaissance façade and medieval body.

The next door Royal Palace backs onto Turin Cathedral, home to the Turin Shroud, the cloth with an imprint of Christ only rarely on display. Its museum is just one of the many fantastic Turin museums. None is better than the Egyptian Museum, the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts outside Cairo. Also noteworthy is the Mole Antonelliana, housing displays on Italian cinema and supposedly the world’s tallest museum.

By the Po, Italy’s longest river, is the Parco del Valentino, a tranquil park that is home to the Borgo Medievale, an artificial, medieval-style settlement with a castle.

However, within Italy, Turin is best known for sport and cars. FIAT is based here and nostalgia lovers can visit the rooftop track on top of their old Lingotto factory, now a conference center. The city’s 2 Serie A football clubs - Torino and Juventus - also have electric atmospheres at their games.

Watch out for amazing views of the Alps as you fly into Turin Airport. Public transport then quickly links you to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or hostel.

    Pleasant city to walk around.

Pleasant city to walk around. Elegant architecture and good shops if you like that; Egyptian Museum certainly large scale; Lingotto district (old Fiat factory) interesting and quieter. We only had two days as we were on route to somewhere else. Probably could have enjoyed a couple of more days.

Torino is a great city for everything - sightseeing, food, cultural experiences, etc. As I have already submitted a review of Torino, in order not to repeat the same things, I will write about our visits to Genova and Novara. Genova is situated to the south of Torino - two hours by train. We went there to visit the Aquarium, and we weren't disappointed. However, apart from that, I wouldn't recommend it as it reminds me of Napoli - polluted, dirty, too many immigrants, not much to see. If I have to give it a rating 10/10 for Torino and 7/10 for Genova. I could add one mark for the famous Pesto Genovese, which you can purchase anywhere in the world. For a much better experience, I would recommend visiting Novara. Situated to the east of Torino - one hour by train (in the direction of Milano), you will find there the famous Basilica di San Gaudenzio, and more precisely, the Cupola (the dome). At 121 metres tall, it is one of the tallest domes in the world. More importantly, tourists can book a climb of the cupola (up to 100 metres), which is a once in a lifetime experience. Although not as big as Torino, Novar, for me, is much better city to visit than Genova.

Turin is quite a laid back city with lots of French influence and is known locally as "Little Paris". The old city is compact with some wonderful museums and relaxing gardens. People are very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit.

On my first night I walked around aimlessly, happened to end up in some rough neighbourhoods which put me off exploring for the next two evenings. On my third and fourth evening I got back out and felt like I only just scratched the surface of what the city has to offer. I would like to return while I am not working so that I can explore museums and sights during the day which I was not able to get to due to work.

A city that is calm, respectful and quiet where everyone is friendly. Turin is also a bit dull - from the extreme uniformity of its architecture to the lack of vibrancy by day or by night. We managed good meals at reasonable prices, even in the centre on Via Porta Pallatina. The Metro and trams provide reliable, clean mobility.

A beautiful city destroyed by graffiti and buildings and infrastructure that needed a proper hose down. Virtually every wall had graffiti damage, the streets were covered with cigarette butts and overall cleanliness left plenty to be desired.

Quick stopover at Hotel Torino on our way back from Puglia to the UK. Have stayed there several times before as we no longer fly because of environmental concerns but love Italy so take the train each year. The hotel is convenient for Porta Susa station. It is comfortable and has a relaxed atmosphere. The staff are always friendly. We got our usual room on the 5th floor in the eaves, with views over the city, which we love.

Not the first time we have stayed here, if travelling anywhere close to Turin we always make a point of at least one night here. We travel to many places and have yet to experience a more comprehensive breakfast than here, the choice and quality is exceptional! The history of the hotel is interesting too, and a trip to the Fiat test track next door is worth it.

Very convenient hotel if you are traveling in Italy by train, close to Turin station to sleep one night and go somewhere further the next day, either by train or to Turin airport. Breakfast is also available. And I was lucky, I had a hotel room with a balcony.

The hotel is located in a prime location, and the hospitality of the team, especially Paola, was terrific. Our room was really comfortable and big. I'll definitely book it again on my next visit to Turin.
