Verbania is a really good base for a stay on Lake Maggiore.
Verbania is a really good base for a stay on Lake Maggiore. It has 2 parts - Intra where the main ports are, and Pallanza. There are lots of boats leaving and arriving every day at Intra, both passenger-only and ferries with cars, so very useful for exploring other parts of the lake. Intra has a nice sea front and an old town with little courtyards and cafes dotted all over it. The highlight of Pallanza is Villa Taranto, the botanic gardens. Warm welcome, especially from the manager who seems to greet everyone personally which is a nice touch. We arrived mid-afternoon and were tired so upgraded to a junior suite with a large balcony.
