Great place to explore and recharge at the same time.
Great place to explore and recharge at the same time. We spent only two days and would spend a few more days if we knew how great this place is. Plan your day early as everything is quiet after 5pm. The time spent travelling from/to places is considerably longer than any other places we stayed in Japan. We bought the Hakone 2 days free pass and is well worth it. It's very good to visit for 3 days, as you will have time and opportunity to visit Fuji Five Lakes, Mount Fuji, and, if needed, easily travel to Osaka and Kyoto using the Shinkansen. The Ropeway, pirate ship, and Hakone shrine are among the best things to experience. Hakone is a wonderful place to visit.
Hakone is a wonderful place to visit. Transportation is readily available however, the bus system is very confusing. The Open Air Museum was exceptional - a must see.

Hakone is so far the highlight of 2 weeks in Japan. Could spend 2 nights there easily. The Free Pass was very good value, easy to use, and a great way to see the area. Start early. Ignore the crowds. Research the spots you want to stop. We wasted time in Hakone machi not realising that we would miss out on the open air museum and other spots around Gora. In hindsight we should have stayed in Odawara, hotels cheaper, only 15mins from Hakone, lots more restaurants and a good vibe too.Guest review byLisa BirdAustralia

It's a 5-minute walk from the hotel to the sightseeing cruise (which is a great way to explore Lake Ashi), and the Hakone Ropeway which we also recommend doing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Private onsen (that you pay for - $30 for 40 minutes) was a lovely experience, although there is a public onsen which is free to use. The Onsen was great, and a fantastic end to a day of exploring. Despite being a common bath open to all guests, we never had to share it with more than one person.
