Hakone is a wonderful place to visit.

Hakone is a wonderful place to visit. Transportation is readily available however, the bus system is very confusing. We used the two day free pass, but to see everything, the three day free pass for first time visitors is necessary. We will go back to view what we missed.

The Open Air Museum was exceptional - a must see. The cable car to the volcano rim was beautiful, as was the charming pirate ship cruise around the volcanic lake. The scenic Tozan railway was a great way to travel to our destination near Gora Station.

Cute little self contained room which had everything we required. A very quiet, small complex but close to everything we needed. The hosts provided excellent service and recommendations - very helpful and friendly. We wish we stayed longer!

Hakone is so far the highlight of 2 weeks in Japan. Could spend 2 nights there easily. The Free Pass was very good value, easy to use, and a great way to see the area. Start early. Ignore the crowds. Research the spots you want to stop. We wasted time in Hakone machi not realising that we would miss out on the open air museum and other spots around Gora. In hindsight we should have stayed in Odawara, hotels cheaper, only 15mins from Hakone, lots more restaurants and a good vibe too.

Hakone is a great place to explore for a few days, with lots to do and see. A nice change from the hectic pace of the cities. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see Fuji-san! I especially enjoyed the Hakone Open Air Museum.

Hakone is a fantastic getaway — perfect for a quick one-day trip from Tokyo or a longer stay if you’d like to unwind in hot spring onsens and savor the local cuisine. For day-trippers, I’d highly recommend taking the Romancecar, as it saves time and offers super comfortable reclining seats. Do keep in mind that you can expect long queues at the Torii Gate and Hakone Shrine by Lake Ashi, as well as at the cable cars to Owakudani. If luck is on your side, you might even catch breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji from different spots around Lake Ashi. And if you have the time, a 3-day trip is ideal for fully relaxing and enjoying both public and private baths/onsens.

Beautiful traditional hotel in the mountains. Our room was very spacious (twin with an onsen and it was so worth it). We have also checked out the communal onsen which had both an inside and outside pools and a very chill vibe. Amazing traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast - don't expect cereal or eggs, this is very different to a European breakfast. We loved walking around the hotel in our yucatas. Overall an amazing stay. I'd also recommend the Hakone sculpture park afterwards - it's a 20 minute walk away or a bus ride.

First off Hakone should definitely be a destination for anyone visiting Japan and this spa retreat hotel was exceptional and a highlight of the holiday. The onsen was very clean and felt luxurious, the lounge area offered free soft drinks during the day, snacks and then alcoholic beverages in the evening (for FREE!). The yukata were comfortable and the room was pleasant. The breakfast was really good. Walkable to a Lawson and Gora station for cable cars/ropeway excursion and a train station to Odawara for Shinkansen

This place was superb! I went at the end of my Japan trip and Hakone and this hotel were the perfect respite from the busy travelling. The room was comfortable, clean, authentic, and had an amazing view of the forest. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful, and continuously went the extra mile with so many things including local recommendations and dinners. It really added to my time there and made it even more special. The onsen is superb overlooking the forest.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel de Yama. The location was a huge plus for me, as I was interested in visiting the Hakone Shrine and Torii gate before it got too crowded. The service was great, the staff were lovely and friendly, and I loved the view of the garden and lake from my room and the hotel's public onsen.

The hotel is located close to the Hakone Yumoto station. This means it is easy to reach and you can explore the rest of the Hakone area via train. The public bath/onsen in the hotel is great. I tried the Chinese restaurant in the hotel and the food was great.
